Schools reopened in Wau Town today after two weeks of closure following a series of strikes by students protesting cuts in teachers’ salaries.
The schools were temporarily closed down in reaction to the frequent demonstrations, some of which ended into rioting.
In a related development, a delegation from the South Sudan Legislative assembly is in Wau to study major educational problems in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
One of the members of the delegation, Philip Koti Wala, told Miraya FM during a tour of the University of Bahr el Ghazal that the purpose of the trip is to have a first hand experience of school problems in Western Bahr el Ghazal State and to assess the budget of the state ministry of Education and the University of Bahr el Ghazal.
