Ameerah Haq
Humanitarian Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General

Ameerah Haq of Bangladesh, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan and the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, arrived in Khartoum on Saturday 15 September. Her appointment was announced on 5 September by the Secretary-General during his visit to Sudan.

Ms. Haq previously served as the Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan responsible for Relief, Recovery and Reconstruction, as well as the UNDP Resident Representative, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Afghanistan.

Ms. Haq was formerly the Deputy Assistant Administrator and Deputy Director of the Bureau for Crisis Prevention and Recovery at UNDP Headquarters in New York. She served as the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Malaysia from 1994 to 1997 and in the same capacity in Laos from 1991 to 1994. Ms. Haq worked in the Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific at UNDP Headquarters at various capacities from 1980 to 1990.
