  • What are the benefits of the DDR programme? - Amongst the many benefits of the programme, the key benefits are:
    • The consolidation of prospects for peace-building, security and reconciliation at national and local levels;
    • The reduction in the levels of violence and insecurity through creation of alternative livelihoods and a reduction in availability of weapons.
    • The creation of an enabling environment for socioeconomic recovery and longer-term sustainable development;
  • When will the DDR programme start?
    • The DDR programme will commence in July 2005.
  • What does the present DDR programme entail?
    The present DDR programme is designed:
    • to build capacity of National DDR Commissions in the North and Southern Sudan to better implement the DDR programme,
    • conduct various need assessments on types of reintegration programme, eligibility criteria, etc., implement DDR programme for special groups such as Children Associated with Armed Forces and Groups (CAAFG), Women Associated with Armed Forces and Groups (WAAFG), Disabled Ex-combatants and;
    • development of a multi-year DDR programme.
  • Who will be eligible for the Child DDR Programme and what will the programme entail?
    • All children under the age of 18 demobilised and removed from all armed forces and groups in Sudan.
    • Children associated with armed forces and groups returned to families as part of family tracing and reunification for all separated children.
    • Inclusive community-based reintegration for vulnerable children implemented.
    • Monitoring and prevention of recruitment and re-recruitment carried out.
  • Other beneficiaries of the DDR Programme:
    • Every one will benefit from the programme through various individual and community based reintegration programmes
  • Will I get money if I enroll for the DDR programme?
    • The programme is not designed to give any direct cash incentives to participants of the DDR programme. Participants can benefit in skills training programmes, Education for Child-ex-combatants, short-term labour intensive programmes for reconstruction and rehabilitation of small infrastructures, agricultural programmes and other income generating activities.
