During the Crisis Response-Special Weapons and Tactics 10-day training course for the Sudanese police organized by UNMIS police section, Kalakal, Khartoum- 29 Mar. 2007

Training Section is one of the most important part in UNMIS Police. Responsible for assessing the local police necessities, analyse and propose a large number of training programs and implement them.

The training activity in the South Sudan is conducted in accordance with the Training Calendar. The Training Calendar was developed to satisfy the immediate training needs for the Sudanese Police. It is based on the findings of the Training Needs Assessment, which has been conducted throughout the South Sudan. Seven training courses were identified as training courses to be conducted by the UN Police:

  • Recruit Basic Police Course
  • Community Policing
  • Human Rights / Gender and Child Protection
  • Crime Investigation
  • Training of trainers
  • Basic Refresher Course
  • First level Supervisory Course

Until December, 2006, 109 Courses, 11 Workshops and 46 Special Lectures/Scenario Based Exercises have been conducted for the Sudanese Police since June 2005; 6760 (1,143 female and 5,617 male) Police Officers have been trained.

Training Programme Circle

Training Programme Circle is the method of constant monitoring of all ongoing training programmes managed by UN Police for Sudanese Police. It allows UN Police being updated of all necessities of training and the necessary changes to improve the efficiency of training methods.
