Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief Transport Officer/Transport Officer, the Vehicle dispatcher assists in the management and tasking of UN fleet of vehicles assigned to Dispatch Unit of the Transport Section as follows:

  • Identification of all routine transportation requirements in UNMIS, Headquarters, Khartoum and or Regional offices and prepares, implements and controls appropriate methods to cater for those requirements. Validates all transportation requests and arranges route planning and reconnaissance. Establishes service timetables and driver rosters.
  • Coordinates the provision of ad-hoc transportation services to meet all requirements including staff and equipment movement for operational duty purposes. Ensures the constant availability of vehicles for temporary assignment in support of one-off and emergency tasks as directed by the Chief Transport Officer.

Academic background: Minimum Secondary school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by courses in administration or transport and logistics operations. Knowledge of transport procedures in the fields is a requirement. Successful university/college level courses in applicable areas are considered beneficial.
Relevant working experience: Minimum 5 years of, vehicle management and administrative experience with focus on transport or logistics operations. Prior work experience within the United Nations or International NGO in a transport field environment is desirable.
Languages: A very good command of English and Arabic. Knowledge of other languages spoken in Sudan an asset.
