Darfur Peace Agreement
On Friday the 5th of may 2006, the Government of Sudan and the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army (Minni Minawi) have signed the Darfur Peace Agreement.
This agreement puts an end to three years of fighting which resulted in the killing of tens of thousands of people and forcing two million to flee their homes.
The peace agreement, which covers security, wealth-sharing and power-sharing, is the result of two years of painstaking negotiations mediated by the African Union (AU).
