- Phase 1: Overview of physical and mental health to identify the participants that:
- have physical disabilities (such as amputations);
- are suspected of highly contagious diseases;
- present psychiatric disorders;
- suffer from other diseases hindering reintegration prospects

On Women Associated with Armed Force Groups (WAAFG)
- Fifty-two WAAFG were registered, provided with reinsertion kits and second payments in the Khartoum OAG pilot in August 2006. The pilot registration will help form the basis for developing the Standard Operations Procedures on Demobilization and Reintegration for WAAFG.
- Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Sensitization Workshops for women's Community Based Organizations (CBOs) took place in Wau, Malakal and Juba from May to July 2006 in partnership with UNDP. The workshops were aimed at identifying key Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) interventions needed to support the reintegration of WAAFG and CAAFG and make recommendations for the DDR programme in this regard. The need to building women's CBOs capacity to act as referral services for WAAFG and CAAFG who are survivors of SGBV emerged as an area for further action in future. A secondary outcome of the workshops was the identification of possible partners and capacities amongst the many CBOs operational in Southern Sudan.
- Identification and registration criteria for WAAFG were developed and disseminated to the NSDDRC and SSDDRC. Identification guidelines for WAAFG were also developed for UNMOs.
- Through a number of activities, several NGO and UN partners were identified and relationships were established with them.
- The SSDDRC has nearly finalized a Gender Policy for DDR that sets policy guidelines for the DDR of WAAFG and Female Combatants and for gender mainstreaming throughout the DDR process.
|
| |
- Both the SSDDRC and NSDDRC have drafted and nearly finalized HIV AIDS strategies that will form the basis of their programming.
- Thirty-two HIV AIDS Peer Educators from the SPLA were trained in Rumbek in June 2006. UNMIS HIV AIDS Unit was an implementing partner, establishing a solid working relationship that will be drawn upon in future programming.
