HIV/AIDS ACTIVITIES

The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) is the most recently established UN peacekeeping mission. Its HIV/AIDS awareness campaign activities have been tailored taking into consideration various factors such as UNMIS' size, Sudan's size and cultures and the mission's extended sector locations.

UNMIS' strength in HIV/AIDS awareness is based on a course of action known as Training of Peer Educators (TOPE) in HIV/AIDS peer facilitation, as well as the sound implementation of developed plans of action through cascade training at contingent levels. In Khartoum, UNMIS is represented in the UN Theme Group on HIV/AIDS and in the Technical Working Group to promote technical collaboration in the efforts to combat HIV/AIDS epidemic.
