Heavy wind and rain have devastated two villages in the Geissan area of Blue Nile State, destroying about 122 houses and leaving 85 families homeless.

Some 75 houses in Durob village (affecting 55 families) and 47 in Essiel (affecting 30 families) were destroyed, according to the Sudanese Red Crescent Society. The harsh weather also demolished two classrooms, serving 200 students.
The disaster prompted the governor's advisor, Ramadan Yasin, to approach UNMIS for help in delivering food, shelter kits and other needed items to the area. On 9 July, the mission transported 75 bags (90 kilogrammes each) of sorghum (a seed boiled with vegetables and milk to make a stew), 85 jerry cans, 170 blankets, and 255 bars of soap to Raqeeba.
