Kurmuk’s once dilapidated police station now has new windows and doors, a fresh paint job and iron sheeting to cover its leaky roof.
The building, which was renovated through an UNMIS Quick Impact Project (QIP) for $24,789, was formally handed over to Kurmuk Police Commissioner Captain Yousouf al-Hassan on 30 August.
Addressing the gathering, Commissioner al-Hassan said, “War has destroyed everything … the police play a vital role in keeping the peace and establishing a civilized society.”
