UNMIS trains Sudanese police in crisis response

Some 43 Sudanese police officers recently learned how to climb up the outside of a building and fight a battle at close quarters, as part of an UNMIS training course.

The 10-day course, on Crisis Response - Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), was led by Jemuel Siason and Regie Antolin of UN Police. Held at GoS Police Central Reserve Forces Training Unit in Klakal, Khartoum, it aimed to build up the skills of Government of Sudan (GoS) police.

During the graduation ceremony, GoS police proudly demonstrated their new skills in window clearing and rappelling (at the tower), high risk vehicle stop (at the firing range). bus entry assault (at the range) and close quarter battle (at the kill-house-firing range).

UNMIS' Police Commissioner, the GoS Police Central Reserve Forces Unit Commander, the GoS Police Central Reserve Forces Training Unit Director and several senior police officials attended the event.

UN Police plan to continue training GoS police by holding similar courses in the future.
