With heavy rains making roads impassible in southern Blue Nile State, UNMIS recently agreed to transport sorghum seeds from Ed Damazin to Kurmuk, a small tukul-filled trading centre on the Ethiopian border.

The state government provided the 280 (100 kilogram) bags of seeds, which will be stored and distributed free of cost to the war-torn town's needy residents during the rainy season. Sorghum is a type of bean which is boiled and made into a soup or stew.
