The Special Representative of the Secretary-General

The Secretary-General announced the appointment of Ashraf Qazi as his Special Representative for Sudan on 11 September 2007.

Mr. Tayé-Brook Zerihoun
Principal Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General

Mr. Tayé-Brook Zerihoun was appointed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as his Principal Deputy Special Representative for Sudan on 1 August 2004 with the rank of Assistant Secretary-General. Mr. Zerihoun joined the United Nations in March 1981. Since then, he has worked on special political questions in New York, in different capacities and areas: decolonization, trusteeship, conflict prevention and resolution, peacemaking and peace-building. Ameerah Haq
Humanitarian Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General

Ameerah Haq of Bangladesh, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sudan and the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan, arrived in Khartoum on Saturday 15 September. Major General Paban Jung Thapa
Chief Military and Force Commander

Major General Paban Jung Thapa was commissioned in the Nepal Army Infantry Unit in 1975 after obtaining Cadet training from the Indian Military Academy, India. Major General Thapa graduated from the Defense Services Staff Collage in India in 1988 and the United States Army War Collage, USA in 2005.

He has had wide-ranging command and staff experience during his 33 years of service, including in counter terrorism, disaster management and peacekeeping. He served as General Staff Officer Grade I (Operation and Training), commanded an infantry brigade during intense involvement in Counter Terrorism Operations, and an infantry division during the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. He commanded a peacekeeping battalion in UNPROFOR (1993) and served as a Platoon Commander and Supply Officer in UNIFIL.
Major General Thapa holds a numbers of awards for distinguished service. He was awarded by His Majesty the Trisakti Patta and Gorkha Dakshin Bahu III.

Major General Thapa is married and has a daughter and a son.


 

Brigadier Kai Vittrup
Police Commissioner

Commander Kai Vittrup started his professional life in the Uniform Branch of Copenhagen Police on 1 April 1965. From 1965 until 1970, he attended police basic training, receiving a diploma for outstanding performance. After more than 41 years in action, Commander Vittrup performed several functions in the Uniform Branch, such as Detective Constable; Police Platoon Leader; Duty Officer; Chief Inspector; Deputy to the head of Gladsaxc Police; head of the National Commissioner's Tactical Support Unit; observer and supervisor of defense, anti-terrorist and disaster exercises; head of Aalborg Uniform Branch; and Chief of Copenhagen Police Uniform Branch.
