Lieutenant General Jasbir Lidder
Chief Military and Force Commander

Lieutenant General Jasbir Singh Lidder was commissioned into The GRENADIERS Regiment of the Infantry in 1969, after three years of training at the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, and one year of training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. During his over 36 years of eventful military career and active service, the officer has had varied experience of commanding sub units / units / formations and staff.

The officer is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, India, the Higher Command Course, Mhow and the National Defence College, New Delhi. He has held important staff appointments at various levels of Army's hierarchy and has vast experience in all types of operations, from Counter Insurgency / Terrorism, Peace Keeping, Disaster Management, to Conventional War. On foreign deputation, the officer has served as General Staff Officer Grade I (Operations and Training), with the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan.

General Lidder's consistent field and operational tenures include command of an Infantry Platoon in 1971 Indo - Pakistan War, and an Infantry Company in active Counter Insurgency operations in insurgency ridden North East India. As a Battalion Commander, he had the distinction of commanding in two Low Intensity Conflict prone areas - High Altitude and Semi Desert Terrain in the border areas. The General Officer commanded an Infantry Brigade in active Line of Control Sector in Jammu and Kashmir, and an Infantry Division Sized Force in intense Counter Insurgency / Terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The officer has had the opportunity of serving as the Chief of Staff with the United Nations in ONUMOZ in Mozambique. During his tenure from June 1994 to January 1995, he assisted the Force Commander in coordinating deployment and operations of over 15 military contingents, approximately 6,000 personnel and 350 military observers, backed with major air effort. The officer advised and assisted the Special Representative of the Secretary General and the Force Commander in ensuring effective ceasefire in the

Mission, successfully demobilising over 70,000 armed personnel of the Government and rebel armies, holding of successful elections with the Electoral Division and installation of a popular democratic government. Later, as Officiating Force Commander, he planned, coordinated and executed sound repatriation of contingents and de-induction of the UN Mission.

The officer is well decorated, with a number of awards for gallantry and distinguished service. As a Company Commander, he was conferred with the "Army Commander's Commendation" for gallantry. He was awarded "UTTAM YUDH SEVA MEDAL" by the President of India for Distinguished Service of Exceptional Order in Combat, in Counter Infiltration and Counter Insurgency / Terrorism operations. He is also a recipient of the prestigious "ATI VISHISHT SEVA MEDAL" (Distinguished Service of Exceptional Order), awarded by the President of India, for directing Counter Insurgency / Terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

The General Officer is married to Satinder and they have a son (27 years), who is a Special Forces Officer in the Indian Army and a daughter (29 years), who is a Molecular Neuro Scientist in New York University.
