Duties and responsibilities:

Under the subversion of the Chief Security Officer/Security Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the following functions:

  • Provide physical access control at UNMIS facilities and premises.
  • Control access and egress of all UNMIS property and goods into and out of UN offices/warehouses and installations.
  • Physically denying entry to all unauthorized persons to UNAMIS compounds and installations.
  • Check all persons authorized to carry weapons to UNAMIS facilities adhere to mission weapons control and clear their weapons at the weapons clearing point before entering UNMIS compounds or facilities
  • Regulate newly arrived personnel and visitors and facilitate their visit.
  • Conduct periodic vehicle and personnel searches at all access points to UNMIS facilities.
  • Ensure vehicles entering UNMIS facilities have the undercarriage checked.
  • Conduct regular perimeter and compound foot patrols of all UNMIS buildings and pay particular attention to finance offices, fire hazards and office doors.
  • Undertake escort duties and other duties as may be directed by the Guard Force supervisor/CSO
  • Report abnormalities during period of duty and safeguard all UN vehicles at UN car parks.
  • Direct and control traffic when necessary and ensuring serviceability of security equipments.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Guard Force Supervisor/CSO

Competencies:

  • Professionalism- good knowledge of security issues specially building security, access control.
    Teamwork- Ability to facilitate teamwork for the benefit of the organisation. Ability to work in a multi ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Client Orientation: Professional and courteous attitude and the ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Communication: Effective oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to explain UN procedures and rules

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of high school education. Training in self defence and security techniques
  • Experience: At least 2 to 3 years of active security related experience. Police or Military service an asset.
  • Necessary skills: Mental and physical fitness. Ability to perform duties in uniform and at times in civilian clothes. Ability to withstand long periods of standing up while performing duties.
  • Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.. Knowledge of other languages spoken in Sudan is an asset.
