National Professional Officers are employed for functions in UNMIS which by their very nature require national knowledge and experience and so could not be carried out as effectively by international professionals

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the section Chief/Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the performance of following duties:

  • Provide interpretation into English or Arabic languages of speech or statements given in Arabic or English.
  • Check verbatim records of meetings services to ensure that there is no significant difference between the interpreted and original language versions of speeches and statement that have been recorded.

  • Professionalism. High level of concentration; split-second accuracy; ability to work under continuous stress; clear delivery;
  • Communication: Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Planning and Organizing: Ability to plan and organize own work
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning: Commitment to pursuing in-service training to acquire the ability to perform at higher levels of difficulty and complexity.
  • Communications: Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Technological Awareness: Acquisition of experience in using interpretations technology

Qualifications:

  • Education: Advance University degree in languages, with specialization in languages or interpreter degree from a recognised university
  • Experience: 5 to 10 years of directly relevant experience at the national level . Previous relevant experience with an NGO or UN Agency an asset.
  • Language: Excellent command of English and Arabic. Other languages spoken in Sudan an asse
