Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief Radio Unit, the Radio Journalist performs the following duties

  • Gather information and produce reports for submission to Radio UNMIS
  • Produce features profiling local actors in the area of responsibility
  • Give daily reports on local government activities in the area of responsibility
  • Cover activities of the mission and local/international representatives as relevant
  • Determine coverage priorities in the region broadcast
  • Keep Public informed of developments and most frequently asked questions as concerns the mission's mandate.
  • Provide coverage of UN agencies activities on the ground and highlight and arrange for live interview and/or coverage where necessary
  • Perform related work as assigned by the Section Chief or the Unit head.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of High School education supplemented by diploma in journalism, communications, technical/vocational training in mass communication and public relations. Additional training/internship in related fields with a UN agency or NGO would be an asset. A degree is an advantage.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5years of progressively responsible professional experience in journalism, communications, public relations, at the national level; international experience is desirable.
  • Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic. Knowledge of other languages spoken in Sudan an asset.
