Duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Administrative Officer or the Regional Logistics Officer, the Logistics Assistant assists in the delivery of logistical and operational services by performing the following functions:
- Liaise with Regional Headquarters for logistics matters, co-ordinate, and monitor daily support of logistics operations and other multifunctional logistic requirements.
- Maintain shipment, receipts and stock records as well as fixed inventory list.
- Facilitate the arrival and departure of UNMIS staff members
- Assist in developing contingency logistics plans to deal with emergent situations.
- Assist in the smooth running of the office by procuring furniture, office supply and equipment in coordination with Headquarters Procurement Section.
- Ensure that storeroom and warehouse are kept clean, orderly and that supplies are maintained in line with international standards.
Competencies:
- Professionalism: Proven analytical skills and willingness to accept responsibilities; ability to work independently.
- Technological Awareness: Good computer skill, including ability to design and operate common data base software, spreadsheet and project management applications and to define and extract management information or logistics support. The ideal candidate should have initiative and willingness to learn new skills and ability to adapt changes in work environment.
- Communications: Proven communication (verbal, written and presentational English) skills.
- Good Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity and gender.
Qualifications:
- Academic Background: High school diploma or equivalent, Diploma in Stock/Finance Management. A degree an asset
Relevant working experience: A minimum of 5 years of progressively relevant experience in stock management, inventory control and warehousing.
- Necessary skills: A valid category B driving license. Good physical condition and able to lift cartons weighing 30 kg.
- Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
- The following assets would constitute an advantage: completion of following courses: Fire safety and combat, First Aid, Forklift operations. Ability to handle hazardous materials
