Duties and responsibilities:

The Security Assistant will be responsible to the Head of Security Section/ Regional Security Officer and will perform the following duties:

  • Assist the operations of the specific unit assigned to- specifically training, Operations and security support units
  • Maintain and update records of the section as applicable.
  • Assist in liaison duties as applicable with the local police, military, local administration etc.
  • Maintain updated list of all equipments in the section assigned as applicable
  • Assist in training of guards
  • Ensure maintenance and operation of equipment issued to the security section/assigned unit as applicable
  • Translate for the security units they are assigned to such as Pass/Ids, Investigations etc
  • During periods of heightened security, the security assistant is to assume specific responsibilities and control of specific areas as determined and instructed by supervisors.
  • Provide inputs for the performance evaluation of the shift supervisors, and security guards.
  • Counsel, coach and mentor security personnel under command
  • Prepare written reports of unusual incidents
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Core Competencies:

  • Professionalism- good knowledge of security issues specially building security, access control; reasonably good knowledge of UN procedures pertaining to access control and other security procedures.
  • Teamwork- ability to facilitate teamwork for the benefit of the organisation. Ability to work in a multi ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
  • Planning and Organizing- ability to plan and organise security operations
  • Client Orientation- professional and courteous attitude and the ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Communication- Effective oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to explain UN procedures and rules.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of secondary education. Training in self-defence and security techniques. Training in management/business administration; technical and communications skills would be an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in all areas of security operations as well as previous experience with the police/military. UN or International NGO security experiences an advantage.
  • Other requirements: Must be physically and mentally fit. Some computer skills also required.
  • Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English. Knowledge of other languages spoken in Sudan is an asset.
