Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Unit Chief, the incumbent assists in the implementation of the UN Aviation Safety Management System by performing the following duties:

  • Aviation Safety Survey Visits; aircraft inspections and vendors performance evaluation; compilation of aviation statistics; maintenance and processing of aircraft hazard and occurrence reports; preparation of adverse safety trends analysis;
  • maintenance and processing of ICAO Annexes and SARPS;
  • Compilation and distribution of Aviation Safety educational material within the Mission.
  • Draft routine communications in English and Arabic; proof read outgoing communications; answer routine telephone enquiries; maintain an up-to-date filing system; and establish and maintain a Reference Library.

  • Aviation skills that indicate capability to progress to more difficult projects; demonstrated ability to apply good judgement in the context of assignments given.
  • Planning and organising: Ability to establish priorities and to plan and coordinate own work
  • Technology awareness: Good computer skills, to include basic knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets and engineering software
  • Communications: Good spoken and written communications skills including ability to draft clear and concise reports
  • Teamwork and Respect for Diversity: Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships in a multi cultural, multi ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Qualifications:

  • Education : High School Education. A degree is an asset. Commercial pilot license with instrument rating; or navigator from a recognized flight training establishment; or cabin crew licence; or air traffic controller licence; or mechanic licence; or a graduate from equivalent military establishment such as military flight/air traffic control/engineering training; or aviation Safety qualification as a result of specific training.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in the aviation industry as a pilot, navigator, aircraft maintenance mechanic, flight crew or assistant air traffic controller. Administrative experience with the UN with a good knowledge of the UN rules and regulations and ability to apply related rules, procedures and instructions when carrying out required assignment. Working experience in aviation safety with commercial aviation or military unit. Experience in the use of ICAO documentation.
  • Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic. Knowledge of other Sudanese languages an advantage.
  • Thorough knowledge of various software applications.
