Working within a MovCon regional detachment in El Obeid, the incumbent is tasked with assisting in the completion of the general day-to-day MovCon related functions of his/her assigned detachment. In this post the incumbent is expected to perform a wide range of basic movement control activities, as well as the dedicated function of bus driver at the airfield location. The incumbent is responsible to the detachment supervisor and responsive to the detachment's customers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The following are the main duties of this post:
- Assist in the checking-in of passengers flying on UNMIS aircraft to include manifest confirmation/amendments, baggage identification and weighing, distribution of boarding passes and passenger briefing.
- Fulfill the duties of a passenger baggage handler by retrieving or placing passenger baggage on aircraft, assist in the transportation of baggage in the terminal area, and follow-up on miss place or damage of baggage.
- Assist with the boarding and deplaning of passengers, while remaining aware of safety procedures standard with respect to aircraft refueling, use of cell phones and approaching aircraft.
- Assist in the preparation and manifesting of air cargo to include the completion of dangerous declaration (if qualified), weighing, loading and the unloading of cargo. This includes the physical actions of lifting and carrying cargo as required.
- As a conscience observer assist with airfield and air terminal security by ensuring that all passenger baggage or property scanned and accounted for at time of check-in, the air passenger remain in designed areas while at the air terminal and all incidents or potential safety or security incidents are reported in a timely manner.
- Possessing a valid class "D" license assist in the movement of Mission passengers to and from aircraft.
- Will move to which ever location as directed by SSO Movcon for carrying out of cargo/ pax handling tasks.
- Important note: The post requires the incumbent to work shifts or alternate schedules, which will include weekends and evenings
- Other duties as assigned by the detachment supervisor.
Competencies:
- Professionalism - Ability to manage processes, maintain accurate records, in different MovCon detachments.
Thorough knowledge of UN administrative procedures, policies and Directives pertaining to Movement Control field. Demonstrated use of initiative and ability to make appropriate linkages in Movement Control requirements and anticipate next steps.
- Planning and organizing - Ability to plan own work and manage conflicting priorities;
- Communications - Good communication (spoken and written) skills, including ability to explain and present Movement Control-related information/requirements and prepare written documents/communications in a clear, concise style;
- Technological awareness - Good computer skills, including proficiency in procurement computer systems, word processing, spreadsheet and Internet applications; familiarity with database management desirable;
- Teamwork - Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
Experience: At least 4 years progressively responsible professional experience in the Movement Control/Logistics fields. Previous UN/International NGO experience in the Movement Control/Logistics fields an asset
Education: Completion of High School education, supplemented by technical/vocational training in the Logistics/Movement Control/Customs Clearance/Shipping fields. Diploma on transportation of Dangerous Goods by Air and Certificate/Coursework/Training in Logistics/Movement Control fields an asset
Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic. Knowledge of other Sudanese languages an advantage.
