Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of Head of Section or his designate, the incumbent performs the following duties:

  • Provide oral interpretation/translation at meetings and conferences with senior community leaders and UN Officials from Arabic/local dialects into English and vice/versa, on regular basis.
  • Provides written and oral translation of materials relevant to UNMIS mandate. Coordinates and schedules meetings and prepares minutes if and when requested.
  • Prepares and drafts correspondence in Arabic, local dialects and English
  • Maintains filing and archiving systems of relevant materials pertaining to the office
  • Provide efficient, comprehensive and timely administrative support.

  • Planning and Organizing: Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to handle own work in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning: Initiative and willingness to keep abreast of new developments in the language and administrative fields
  • Technological awareness: Ability to operate a computer with MS Word, Excel Power Point and Data bases.
  • Languages skills: Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic. Knowledge of regional dialects an asset.

Education: Completion of Secondary education with confirmed diploma/certificate in translation/interpretation. A post-secondary school Degree language an advantage. Candidates with Linguistic Degree are encouraged to apply.
Experience: At least 4 years relevant work experience in language fields. Experience with UN/NGO or other International bodies an added asset.
Other skills: Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given. Demonstrated effective organizational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner.
