National Professional Officers are employed for functions
in UNMIS which by their very nature require national
knowledge and experience and so could not be carried
out as effectively by international professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
National Professional Officers are employed for functions
in UNMIS which by their very nature require national
knowledge, culture experience and languages. In this
respect and under the supervision of the Chief Movement
Control Section, the incumbent will perform the following
functions:
- Develop plans and procedures with senior Government
Customs Officials on Customs Clearance Procedures
for United Nations Owned Equipment (UNOE) and Contingent
Owned Equipment (COE).
- Develop plans and procedures with senior Government
- Coordinate with Senior Government Customs Officials
to obtain all the required approvals and agreements
for the pre-clearance release of urgent items, i.e.
medical supplies, aircraft spares, et cc.,
- Brief Senior government Officials within the Ministry
of Foreign affairs on issues pertaining the Customs
and Immigration on the UNMIS deployment Plan
- Perform the customs clearance of all goods intended
for the official use by the Mission in compliance
with the Sudanese customs regulations and directives
governing the import and export of UNOE and COE.
Competencies
- Professionalism: Ability to coordinate the work
of others, work to tight deadlines and handle multiple
concurrent projects/activities.;
- Planning & Organization: Ability to establish
priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own
work plan;
- Technological Awareness: Good computer skills, including
proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and
presentation software, e.g. PowerPoint;
- Communications: Ability to draft clearly and concisely.
Proven analytical drafting and effective communications
skills
- Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills; ability to
develop and maintain effective work relationships
with different national and cultural backgrounds with
sensitivity and respect for diversity.
Qualifications:
- Education: Advance degree in Business Administration,
Finance, Public Relations, or any other related field
or equivalent or a relevant combination of academic
qualification and relevant experience.
- Experience: At least 5 years progressively responsible
professional experience in fields of Customs and Excise,
shipment and Public Relations.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic
